How to connect
- Put your iPhone and computer on the same Wi-Fi network, or connect the computer to the same router by cable.
- Open Files Across and tap Connect Computer.
- Type the address it shows, for example
http://192.168.1.42:8080, into your computer's browser. - Enter the six-digit code.
Keep Files Across open during transfers. Sharing stops when you switch apps or lock the phone. Step-by-step guides: Windows, Linux, photo library export.
The page doesn't load
- Keep the app open: Files Across must be on screen with the iPhone unlocked.
- Type the full address, including
http://and the number after the colon. Type it in the address bar, not a search box. - Local Network permission: on the iPhone, open Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network and turn on Files Across. Reload the page. The very first attempt can fail while iOS is still asking.
- Same network: guest Wi-Fi and some office or hotel networks keep devices apart. Use your main network, or turn on the iPhone's Personal Hotspot and connect the computer to it.
- Same Wi-Fi name, still nothing: the devices may be on different subnets. The first three numbers of the computer's IP address usually match the address on the iPhone.
- VPN: turn off a VPN on the phone or the computer and try again.
- Firewall or security software on the computer can block local connections. Allow your browser to reach devices on your local network. Files Across never changes these settings itself.
- Old address: addresses and codes belong to one session. Tap Stop Sharing, then connect again for a fresh address and code.
The code doesn't work
Codes expire after five minutes and work once. After five wrong attempts, wait a minute. The phone always shows the current code. Only one browser can be connected at a time; connecting a new one signs out the old one.
A transfer stopped
Locking the iPhone, switching apps, or a network change ends the session. Files that finished are kept; unfinished ones are never saved as complete. Reconnect and send the unfinished files again; they start from the beginning.
Where files are stored
Files from the computer are saved in the shared folder, by default On My iPhone › Files Across in the Files app, and appear in the app's Files tab. Folder uploads become real subfolders. You can choose another folder (for example in iCloud Drive) in Settings. Files you add from Photos or the Files app are shared where they are, not copied.
Folders
Folder upload (Pro) needs a browser that supports folder selection, such as current Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Empty folders are not included. Downloads from the iPhone are individual files; use photo library export for ZIPs of photos.
Photo library export
Tap Send Photo Library (or Share Photo Library while connected) and allow access to Photos. The browser lists months; download them as ZIPs and use Download remaining after an interruption. Photos only in iCloud are fetched by the phone first, which needs internet; anything it can't get is listed in Not included.txt in that month's ZIP. Full guide.
Files Across Pro
A one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited files per batch, folder upload, photo library export and HEIC to JPG conversion. Try it free for one sharing session from the Pro screen. Bought it before? Sign in with the same Apple Account, open the Pro screen and tap Restore Purchases. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Security
Transfers stay on your local network. Each session has a new six-digit code that works once and expires after five minutes, with a lockout after repeated wrong guesses. Only one browser can connect, it only sees the shared folder and the files you added, and it's signed out when sharing stops.
The connection uses plain HTTP and is not encrypted. Someone else on the same network with the right tools could see the traffic. Use Files Across on a network you trust, such as your home Wi-Fi, not public Wi-Fi. See the Privacy Policy.
